Report of the Ford Delegation to Russia and the U. S. S. R., 1926.

The accession is comprised of two typewritten copies of the Report of the Ford Delegation to Russia and the U. S. S. R. The report is organized into four parts. Part I is entitled "General Political, Economic and Social Conditions of the U. S. S. R." It includes chapters on the political organization of the country, finance, car and truck prospects, labor and wages, mineral resources, domestic trade, foreign trade, agriculture, social and religious conditions, foreign relations, and the railways. Part II is entitled "Service Conditions in the U. S. S. R." It includes discussion on possible remedies to tractor service problems, numbers of tractors and service stations, tractor fuels and oils, and the tractor program in general. Part III is entitled "Manufacturing Plants and Tiflis Exposition." It includes reports on possible Ford Motor Company tractor manufacturing in the Soviet Union and the Ford Exhibit at the Tiflis Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition. Part IV is entitled "Miscellaneous Pertinent Data." It includes summaries of credits granted, selling prices of Ford products, competition from other sources, and a general discussion on transportation. There are a number of labeled snapshot photographs pasted on pages throughout the report. Many photographs referenced in an illustrations index, however, are not included in these copies.

A draftsman when he joined the Ford Motor Company in 1907, Berghoff soon moved into the Tool Design Department. He became involved in tractor operations in 1917, assisting in the development of the Fordson Tractor in England. In 1926, Berghoff was part of a Ford Motor Company group traveling to Russia to survey the use and servicing of tractors and to consider sites for establishing a factory.
